I am looking forward to welcoming all of our students back to in-person learning five days a week for the opening of the school year. Our theme this year is “Building A World of JOY!”  We plan on doing this each and every day by lifting others up by our actions, kind deeds, and prayers.  I am excited to welcome back all our students to in-person learning every day during the school week. The leadership team gathered over the summer to go over the latest guidance from the CDC, King County Department of Health, and the Governor’s office announcements about the returning to school for students, staff, and teachers and what this means for St. Luke. We reflected on what we have learned over the past year and a half and reviewed our COVID protocols to maintain a healthy environment on campus. I am proud to say the protocols we had in place for in-person learning last year were very successful and we have made only minor adjustments for the start of this year. 


We will continue to make sure everyone in our community follows health guidelines: wear a face covering, practice physical distancing, and wash hands often. These simple guidelines are working. The CDC reports that a vaccine is coming for those under the age of 11 and we hope all will be able to take advantage of this.  As long as we all follow the guidelines and get vaccinated, we are doing our part to put a halt to the latest Delta variant. We have implemented strict cleaning practices daily including our night cleaning crew, which sanitizes each learning space (including desks) throughout the school.  

As a school in King County, we follow the PHSKC directives.   St. Luke School has worked tirelessly to ensure the health of our students, staff, and community, but we cannot do this alone.  We ask for your assistance and cooperation to keep our school family safe by following the protocols set out by the state and county.

All members of the St. Luke community have a shared responsibility to prevent the spread of COVID-19. In conjunction with public health experts, the state has issued general distance, health, and safety protocols, which are intended to reduce infection. It is critical that everyone follows these guidelines and does their part to keep others healthy. Further, when on campus, we expect all teachers, staff, students and families to abide by the school’s health and safety measures designed to mitigate the risk of transmission of COVID-19. Together, we will work to keep our community healthy and safe.


Expect Each St. Luke Warrior to Assume Personal Responsibility to Protect One's Self and Community

Every member of the St. Luke community will take protective measures and act in accordance with the goal of keeping our school and campus safe and healthy.

  • All students, teachers, staff, and families are expected to follow directives from national, state, and local authorities to maintain their own health and safety during this pandemic. These include the Washington State Department of Public Health, Public Health – Seattle & King County and the CDC Guide on Protecting Yourself and Others.

  • All students, faculty, and staff will stay home when feeling ill, or after exposure to someone who is ill or who has tested positive for COVID-19.

  • All students, faculty, and staff will adhere to symptom-screening protocols upon entering campus.

  • All students, faculty, and staff will practice critical personal safety practices, including wearing face masks on campus, enhanced hand hygiene practices, adhering to safe physical distancing practices, and following all safety instructions and signage.

Establish Open, Direct, and Consistent Communication Between Home and School

As we embark on the 2021-2022 school year, St. Luke School commits to engaging in open and timely communication with our families, and we invite our families to do the same.

  • St. Luke staff will update our Return to School Information page on the website as needed to keep parents abreast of important updates and information.

  • St. Luke will designate a COVID-19 Coordinator who will serve as a direct contact for families who have questions or concerns.

  • Parents will contact the COVID-19 Coordinator as soon as possible if a student or member of their household tests positive for COVID-19. This information will remain confidential and will allow the school to engage in effective contact tracing procedures to limit possible infection of others.


Implement a Student Health and Safety Orientation to Educate Students About the Risk of COVID-19 Transmission

Upon return to school, St. Luke staff will implement a Student Health and Safety Orientation that will provide students with the necessary classroom health and safety information to help mitigate the risk of COVID-19 transmission. This training will set the stage for a culture of health and safety and build relationships among and between faculty and students. The school will communicate our continued expectations and will provide students with time to review and practice the safety protocols with their classmates and teachers.

In order to keep the school open in the safest way possible, St. Luke School continues best practices and routines for health and safety.  It is imperative for all members of our community to adhere to our new practices, as the health and safety of our community relies upon a joint effort from all community members.

Daily Screening Protocols

Upon return to St. Luke School, we will continue with daily screening protocols. All students, teachers, and staff will be required to monitor and report all symptoms related to COVID-19. These screenings will help ensure that anyone who is ill (cold, flu, and/or COVID-19), or who may have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, does not come to school or participate in school activities. 

  • Daily temperature checks will be included in the screening protocols.

  • All students, faculty, and staff will be screened daily on campus and at home.

  • St. Luke School will require any student, teacher, or staff member who is exhibiting concerning symptoms to stay home.

Hand Hygiene Practices

St. Luke School will implement practices and procedures that promote more frequent handwashing and sanitizing.

  • St. Luke staff will educate students about proper hand-washing technique.

  • St. Luke staff has hand-sanitizing stations throughout school, including at the entrances and in each classroom.

  • Students and faculty will be required to use hand sanitizer before entering or leaving each classroom.


Morning Drop-Off and Afternoon Pickup

Carpool Safety:  
During Carpool, staff will be used to manage health screenings, hand sanitizing, and to direct students to and from their cars and the building in the morning and from the building to the cars in the afternoon.  Parents remain in their cars with masks on at all times.

Entrance and Exit to School
Grade levels will have designated entrances and exits.

Morning Procedures:

  • Extension students will gather in the auditorium or at the plaza door where staff will complete the safety checks.

  • Morning Carpool: Students will arrive at staggered times assigned alphabetically by carpool families.

    • Please review the NEW schedule below (implemented Monday 10/25)

      • Drop-off times (for families without Preschool siblings) are listed below:

        • 8:00 -8:10 a.m.: last name beginning with A-E

        • 8:10 - 8:20 a.m.: last name beginning with F-L

        • 8:20 - 8:30 a.m.: last name beginning with M - R

        • 8:30 - 8: 40 a.m.: last name beginning with S - Z

          **NOTE: Families who have Preschool siblings will drop-off between 8:15 and 8:30 am and do not follow the above schedule.

    • Carpool AM Dropoff Times:

    • Staff will be on-site to complete safety checks before students exit their cars.  This will ensure social distancing that wouldn’t be practical at the doors of the school. Parent(s)/student(s) will respond to health questions via the JotForm DAILY.  Preschool parents will park and walk their preschoolers to their classrooms to sign them in.

      Daily COVID Health screening:  St. Luke will be using Jotform as our daily required health screen before students are allowed to enter the school.   Parents will follow the link and answer questions before the student arrives on campus:

  • Parents will need to complete this form for each child they have at St. Luke.  Here is the iPhone information on how to save Jotform on your iPhone.  There is also a hotlink to the jotform at the top of the webpage for easy access.

    • Complete the Jotform for each student before you arrive.

    • iPhone screenshot:  Press the Side button and the Home button at the same time. Quickly release both buttons. After you take a screenshot, a thumbnail temporarily appears in the lower-left corner of your screen

    • iPhone: open link to fill out the form, take a screenshot, or save as on open file in safari of the confirmation page.  For each student, you will need to open a new search to fill out the form then take a screenshot or save as on open file in safari.  When dropping off your student you will need to show the confirmation page.  

After-School Procedures

  • Families will not need to get out of their cars.

  • Carpool: All students will be dismissed in 2 staggered times according to their grade bands; K-2, 3-8.

  • Students will assemble (in their designated area) with their homeroom class.

  • Preschool Dismissal: Parents may park in the church parking lot in order to sign out their child per state regulations. For those families who have older children, the preschooler will be picked up first. Staff members will notify siblings’ teachers who will release the student to meet their families behind the portables.

  • Please drive into the appropriate lane for your homeroom teacher's grade.  Please pull all the way to the front, and remain in your car.

    • NEW TIME! Grades K-2  - 3:00 pm daily (Except for Tuesday early release day @ 2:00)

      • Gr. K Ms. Hoban in lane 1

      • Gr. K Miss Pala in lane 2

      • Gr. 1 Mrs. Edmonds in lane 3

      • Gr. 1 Ms. Foo in lane 4

      • Gr. 2 - both classes in lane 5

    • NEW LANE PICKUP LOCATIONS!  Grades 3-8 3:15 pm daily (Except for Tuesday early release day @ 2:15)

      • Both Gr. 3 Smith/Sheehan in lane 1

      • Both Gr. 4  Conrow/ DeCuir in lane 2

      • Both Gr. 5 Bakamis/Smith in lane 3

      • Both Gr. 6 Dimock/Lanier in lane 4

      • Both Gr. 7 & 8 - All classes in lane 5

For Sibling Dismissal:

  • Families in multiple grades should follow the earliest sibling dismissal time.

  • As always, the Extension Program is always available for those families needing a later pickup time.

Redesign Instructional Spaces to Ensure Appropriate Social Distancing

St. Luke School will make use of our entire campus to ensure appropriate physical distancing of students, teachers, and staff.

  • Classroom and learning spaces have been reconfigured to allow for 3 ft. of physical distancing.

  • Outdoor spaces may be used instead of indoor spaces when possible and appropriate. Classroom protocols, including designated entry/exit procedures and additional disinfection and cleaning procedures, will continue.

Ready Buildings and Common Spaces for Return to School

The layout and design of school buildings and facilities have been assessed to ensure proper health and safety updates are made, appropriate signage is posted, and public-use areas are addressed.

  • Air filter upgrades, posting applicable signage, and creating bathroom protocols are among the measures are in place.

  • Hand-sanitizing stations are in place throughout the school.

Extracurricular Programming

As a school whose mission is holistic and student-centered, we understand the importance of extracurricular programming in our students’ lives. We will continue to strive to find ways to offer opportunities for students to learn and connect with their classmates outside of the traditional classroom setting. In doing so, we will assess the safety of activities on a case-by-case basis and make programming decisions that we feel maintain our students’ safety, while upholding the dignity of our mission.

St. Luke School has a strong community and values our relationships with one another as a critical component of what makes a St. Luke education so special.  St. Luke School is committed to providing all members of our community with opportunities to build relationships with one another and celebrate important school traditions.

  • St. Luke School may leverage technology to bring our entire student body together once a week for all-school assemblies, various school celebrations, prayer services, and liturgies.

  • Weekly time within the schedule will be included to provide opportunities for student check-ins, grade-level meetings, and scheduled social-emotional lessons.

  • St. Luke School will work with the Parents Club and parish staff to provide a parent education series either in person or digitally as an opportunity for parents to learn with and from one another.

  • Student-parent-teacher conferences will be in the fall and spring and throughout the year as needed.

  • St. Luke School will plan opportunities for parents to connect informally.

Just as St. Luke School has made adjustments to our academic and extracurricular programs, our Extension and after-school programs are beginning to return with best practice guidelines. We have made modifications to our Extension and after-school programs to support the safe operations of the school.

Revised Hot Lunch Program

Our new chef, Chef Anni, has reenvisioned our food program to ensure that we can continue to provide top-quality food services while enacting the health safety changes necessary to mitigate the risk of transmission of COVID-19.

  • Students will eat lunch in their classroom or assigned, designated area with their homeroom students each day.

  • Fresh lunches will be prepared daily, packaged, and delivered to designated areas.

  • Lunches will be pre-ordered. Students may still bring their own food.


Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) Athletics

All Catholic schools participating in the CYO Program follow the same best practices as outlined by the Department of Health and the Seattle Archdiocese guidelines.
