technology & learning

Technology and innovation are integral in the development of well-rounded and prepared students. St. Luke School ensures that the Catholic values and academic principles that distinguish our school are enhanced by access to the technology and resources that promotes critical thinking and learning.

Technology is integrated in classrooms from kindergarten through 8th grade, and includes access to mobile technology stations throughout the school to move towards a 1:1 ratio allowing all students to access technological resources anywhere, anytime. Students develop proficiency in keyboarding and are introduced to fundamental computer applications including Word, Powerpoint, Prezi, Excel and Publisher programs. As part of the Math curriculum, students are given a password to access ALEKS Math, a web-based math support program tied to Common Core Math Standards. Additionally, many textbook resources are available on-line to compliment the updated curriculum in English Language Arts (ELA). During the 2015-16 school year the Google Classroom and Google Drive will be implemented allowing students, teachers, and families to store work, edit, and access resources to enhance learning in the various curricular areas.

In 2014-15, SmartBoards, an interactive whiteboard, were installed in all classrooms allowing for greater opportunities to engage all learners. During the 2015-16 school additional I-Pads and Laptops will be made available to students from pre-kindergarten through grade 8 with the addition of a second mobile cart holding up to 40 devices.

The St. Luke School library provides access to all the resources available to support classroom-based learning. From Kindergarten Prep through 8th grades, students are encouraged to research and explore, with a goal of having every student graduate with the ability to locate and evaluate resources. Students are exposed to current literature across all genre types, to help them expand their understanding of the world around them.

The St. Luke School library collection offers a broad range of reference, fiction and non-fiction materials, at all reading levels. We teach and encourage use of the public library systems, including King County, Seattle and Sno-Isle. Through the library, students use the Accelerated Reader (AR) program for better reading comprehension. Our library also uses the latest library management software, Destiny Library Manager, to work more efficiently while creating collaborative learning environments to promote student achievement. All of the Archdiocese High Schools use this software, ensuring students have a seamless transition as they graduate and move on.
